AI incidents, 6 October 2026: Claude and OpenAI recoveries
Claude's 30-minute error event and OpenAI's resolved ChatGPT, Pages, Work and API incidents, with UTC timelines and a Kits AI customer-report follow-up.
Publisher disclosure: MUVO offers competing music, remix, and video tools. This report summarizes public sources and provider documentation; it is not an independent product test or a claim that MUVO is free of similar issues. Read our reporting method.
Today’s incident summary
The strongest new evidence concerns Claude model errors and OpenAI service interruptions. Both providers showed recovery by this edition’s cutoff. These are provider-confirmed events; they do not establish that every user, model, or region was affected. Customer-review findings are identified separately below.
This first edition with expanded event coverage checks the preceding 48 hours, including resolved incidents that no longer appear as active alerts. All event times below are UTC; add three hours for Istanbul. The edition date is October 6, while individual event dates are stated explicitly. Product announcements are in our separate daily AI news and updates.
Claude: 30 minutes of errors on October 5
Confirmed impact: 12:40–13:10 UTC on October 5, or 15:40–16:10 Istanbul. Anthropic identifies elevated request errors for Claude Mythos 5.1 and Claude Fable 5.1, with claude.ai, the Claude API, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork listed as affected surfaces. The notice does not say that every Claude model or request failed.
Anthropic posted its investigation at 13:05 UTC and its resolved update at 13:21 UTC. The explicit impact interval is 30 minutes; the later posting time is not the recovery time. No technical root cause or affected-user count appears in the notice. Anthropic’s original incident timeline.
OpenAI: recovered conversations, creative workflows and developer services
OpenAI’s original notices identify the following separate events. These are update timestamps, not measured outage intervals. The first public acknowledgement may follow the actual start, and a resolution post may follow mitigation. We have not combined them into one continuous outage or assigned a shared cause.
- ChatGPT, image generation, Spaces/Pages and Dots: investigation posted October 6 at 02:41, mitigation/monitoring at 02:44, and recovery at 03:17. The notice title also mentions API rehydration. Original multi-product event.
- ChatGPT Work and Codex in ChatGPT Desktop: first investigation October 5 at 07:03, mitigation/monitoring 09:50, and recovery October 6 at 02:10. OpenAI said scheduled tasks could also be affected. The long gap before the final post does not demonstrate continuous failure throughout that period. Original Work event.
- API Platform login and administration APIs: investigation and monitoring posted October 6 at 00:40, with recovery at 01:35. This is an administration/access incident, not evidence that all model inference stopped. Original API event.
- ChatGPT conversations: investigation October 5 at 16:58, mitigation/monitoring 17:55, and recovery October 6 at 00:01. The notice describes errors affecting some conversations and also lists FedRAMP among affected components. Original conversation event.
- Codex Cloud: identification posted October 5 at 17:58, monitoring 18:07, and recovery October 6 at 00:01. The notice names Codex Cloud although its component list is empty. Original Codex event.
- Admin Console: intermittent inaccessibility was acknowledged October 5 at 15:50, monitoring followed at 19:33, and recovery at 21:07. Original Admin Console event.
- Pages saving and live editing: investigation October 5 at 12:44, with resolution at 13:04. OpenAI described problems saving changes or reconnecting to live editing sessions. Original Pages event.
One history entry needs particular care: a broad ChatGPT/Codex/API event received another resolved update on October 6 at 08:26, but its investigation and earlier recovery updates are dated September 29. We treat it as an update to an older event, not a fresh October 6 outage. The reviewed page promises an RCA but does not display one. Original September 29 event with October 6 update.
Customer reports: Kits AI download access
Earlier today, we published a Kits AI download-minutes report. An account with an October 3 experience date describes remaining minutes that could not be used without another payment. Official guidance distinguishes paid download access from a displayed balance; it does not verify the customer’s account history. The case remains unresolved in the reviewed public material and is not a confirmed service outage. The linked report retains the dated evidence, historical context, vendor response and practical entitlement checks.
What creators and developers can check
Our practical suggestion is to compare a failed request’s time and product with the relevant notice before diagnosing it as an ongoing outage. For unfinished Work tasks, inspect their actual completion state; the Work incident’s recovery post does not establish that every interrupted task subsequently completed. For Pages, confirm that expected edits are present. These are workflow checks, not vendor guarantees of recovery for an individual job.
For API problems, preserve the request identifier, timestamp and error message for support, keeping credentials private. Use the provider’s current status page and the incident’s named components to narrow the investigation. For Kits, confirm the active plan and download entitlement before buying more minutes; the detailed report explains the open questions.
Coverage and limitations
ElevenLabs: its official history listed no October incidents at the cutoff. This is a statement about the published history, not proof that nobody experienced problems.
Google: the Cloud status dashboard showed no broad severe incident; its product history yielded no qualifying event in this scan window. This does not establish consumer Gemini, Flow or MusicFX availability. The separate Gemini API status site was inaccessible during this check, so that coverage remains incomplete.
Music, video and remix/stem customer-review research from earlier today is retained in this edition’s research record. We found no verified new resolution for our existing Suno, Runway or Moises reports. Additional provider coverage was selective: some status interfaces exposed only current state or an unreadable historical calendar. No absence-of-outage claim is made for those gaps.
Update timeline
- 6 October 2026, 09:13 UTC / 12:13 Istanbul: First daily incident edition consolidates official October 5–6 events and today’s Kits report. Claude’s actual impact interval is separated from status-post times. The September 29 OpenAI event is labeled as an older event with a new update.
